You’ll have to ponder this. Thanks for your willingness to do so.
Important note: I make mention of the student preacher in my main story as being African American. I should have explained more. In our seminary, Palmer Seminary, roughly half of our students were African-American women and men. The student who preached this sermon in support of Jeremiah Wright was as I said an African-American student, which is worth mentioning because he envisioned himself preaching this sermon to a mostly African-American congregation gathered with Obama in this imaginary sermon location. Preaching then to mostly African Americans, part of his message to them was a critique of African Americans not defending each other when society at large was diminishing them. The student who was a fan of Obama wished Obama had utilized his position to affirm what Jeremiah Wright had attempted to do in his sermon; rather than appearing to leave Rev Wright alone to fight critics of what should never have been criticized. .
I did not mention that the student is African-American so you would think I’m a really cool white professor who gets non racist points for being able to appreciate the contributions of the occasional Black student passing through my classes. That would be akin to telling you that my best friend in college was Black.
