The handling of evil
For better or worse
In this world evil cannot be eradicated. At least no one I know of in any era has been able to make the claim accurately that evil is no more.
This leaves us with few options, and if giving up on good to join those through whom evil does its work is not acceptable the possibilities for dealing with evil are twofold. Either we find ways to contain evil wherever it shows up, or we incapacitate individuals and institutions that promulgate the evil.
With eyes wide open
Those who are considering joining in with evil because they think ultimately it’s the winning team need to keep in mind that evil is called that for a reason. It has no scruples, and any kind of loyalty is always thin and conditional. When you are not accomplishing enough of what evil wants from you, what do you believe your plight will be? You’re done for. Before you even knew what was happening, the life force was gone from your body and your body put on ice in a morgue.
Choosing to stay on the side of good means that you with other magnanimous souls, instead of using all of your energy for goodness’s sake as you’d prefer, must continually expend a measure of your vigor trying to confront and corral evil or incapacitate the evil doers. The ultimate incapacitation of an evil doer Is assassination. Think Mussolini. Think Saddam Hussein. Tyrants almost always have their lives ended in violence, but not before they have brought infinitely more pain and suffering to the masses than they could possibly experience, regardless of their ending.
There is no guarantee that the good people seeking to hold evil at bay can avoid an early demise. Any confrontation with evil is a risk. And there are lots of people who sacrifice their hopes and opportunities for happy ever afters (our courageous military women and men, for example) so that others can relish those.
Trump, Republican, MAGAt entrenchment is so metastasized that extraction will have to be massive. Leashing the evils it has unleashed even though begun in this generation will still fall to our children grandchildren for resolution.
The harsh realities of what I’ve just described do not deter those in our nation and world who are completely sold out to good..They are our hope.
