From the epistle of First John in Christian scripture, the third chapter and the 17th verse. With many amazing translations of Christian scripture available, this is the New American Standard translation:

“…whoever has worldly goods and sees a brother or sister in need, and closes her or his heart against the one in need, how does the love of God remain in that person?”
