In response to our fellow-clergyperson's, William Barber's, arrest today by DC Capital Police for the high crime of praying for the poor in the Capitol Rotunda, we must all 1. stand in awe of his pietistic courage; 2. express aggressively though not violently our indignation for the racially-tainted attack on him and his freedom of speech and his freedom of religious expression.



Don't bother with strongly-worded letters. Be certain your parish knows of your outrage; also your denominational leadership and your elected representatives. Use those church signs for a serious word to your community too, and let efforts to be cutesy and clever on your signs take a break for th

If you don't know of Bonhoeffer's fate, shame on your seminary. Read up, and refrain from thinking it can't happen again

A handful of steps from the place of Dr Barber's handcuffing and arrest, the First Felon and Hitler wannabe, Drowsy Demonic Don, has had in the Oval a crowd of MAGAt faux clergy led by White Paula, the lone female, and typically with one or two African American token men not allowed to stand close enough to Trump to touch the Racist in Chief. The whole lot of them appear to be faux praying. Not a single one those retains ownership of her or his soul

Dr Barber posted a note several hours after his arrest indicating that he had been released. We are most grateful for that. Many detainees are on prison camp-bound planes before release is even considered. Otherwise, the damage cannot be undone. But it falls to us to be certain it can't happen again in our generation
