Dear Democracy: Why allow for self-destruction?
When is liberal too liberal?
Liberal is too liberal when it can liberal itself into extinction. No law should ever be passed in a democracy that allows for any activity that destroys democracy. Why is that not a self-evident working principle?
Democracy must be protected fiercely at all times. Open attacks on democracy have to be handled head on. Any subtle or implied diminishment of democracy must be dealt with promptly and harshly as well.
If the system or systems of checks and balances for self-preservation do not work, show themselves to be ineffective precisely in the midst of trying to defend democracy when they are needed the most, those principles must go. New ones are needed.
Loomer wants genocide of Hispanics.
The weakest people in our democracy at this moment are those who most need democracy’s protections. And the strongest people in our democracy at the moment are its haters and abusers, those who believe that democracy exists for the well-being of the most wealthy and the most powerful among us. The poor and powerless are regarded by the rich and powerful primarily as a servant class for them at best and at worst easily expendable entities.
This is exactly what happened when the European settlers aka murderers got into their minds that God had given them this land and that the indigenous people already living here could either help them by becoming their servants in various ways or simply be annihilated like a herd of animals that needed to be thinned out. This happened initially as it would happen again—for example, when President Andrew Jackson openly defied federal law and caused the genocide that was named the Trail of Tears.
When evil people get together, and they do enjoy one another’s company, competition comes up. Who can be the most evil here?
In the case of the Trail of Tears, was the most evil force President Jackson who had the US military show up (again AGAINST THE LAW) at the homes of the Cherokee Natives living in and around New Echota, Georgia, dragging them out of their homes and forcing them to start walking toward Oklahoma? Or was it the physicians from Pennsylvania and Army personnel who helped Native haters figure out how to put live smallpox into blankets sent to the Natives ostensibly to protect them from the elements and to keep them comfortable as they rested from their travel?
Why was Jackson not prosecuted? Why are Trump and Bondi and Noem and Patel not prosecuted for doing the same kinds of things to our citizens today? Loomer wants genocide of Hispanics.
Liberal is too liberal when it can liberal itself into extinction.
How has democracy made an oh so easy and comfortable place for such lawless goons to spew their threats and then to act on them without consequence? How can democracy continue to protect its own executioners?
